Day 1. My day didn’t start off to well; It’s too hot, I woke up early thanks to a power-cut in my area. I don’t ever remember one taking place in London in all my 21 years of life. The heat really makes me lazy, all I want to do is stay in bed all day. However Wireless festival started today so I definitely got my brown ass to Hyde Park for it. More after the cut.

I was a festival virgin before today. I wasn’t sure what exactly to expect from the scenes I’ve seen on the TV/described by friends. Actually I lie, I expected chaotic crowds full of drunkards throwing bottles and people sliding around in mud. There certainly wasn’t any mud today, in fact it the ground was so dry and sandy. Anyway first thing I noticed was how well the festival was setup; so spacious, a plethora of food stands and bars as well as the sponsor stands. 3 stages spread across a large section of Hyde Park and with the weather being nice, I knew I was in for a good day.
Instead of going through each and every artist I witnessed today, I’ve decided to pick my top 3 from each day. Today’s top 3 are as follows (reverse order):
3. Plan B
To think I used to design for the East London born emcee 5 years ago and to see where he is now musically and how far he is with his career is phenomenal. I didn’t actually know it was him that was coming on, I just happen to follow the masses of people under the Pepsi Stage roof.
All of sudden I hear a roar and look towards the stage to see a dude dressed fairly smart (waistcoat and pants) and I suddenly clocked onto who it was. Plan B aka Ben Draw started his set by introducing Faith SFX who beatboxed a range of famous club songs which include Day-N-Nite and Calabria. Real dope. He proceeded to sing a few hits off his latest release such as ‘Stay Too Long’ and ‘She Said’ which made the crowd go insane. I love the way he can switch up singing and rapping, I couldn’t compare him to Drake/Kid Cudi as Plan B isn’t Hip-Hop. He has his own style and it damn sure works.
and ‘Blud that girl was 14′
2. Pink
Today’s headlining act Pink, I’ve been a fan of her since sophomore year in secondary school. She is one of a few artists that can pull off any genre of music she sings, from r&b, rock, punk and pop.
If you’ve seen her perform in the past then you know you can expect crazy ass stunts and today’s entrance was no exception. She threw herself onto the stage out of a box that was held up by a CRANE, yes you read right. What an entrance. She carried that energy onto the stage with a few classics, mixed with her newer songs that I’m not so much a fan of. She can certainly sing and give a good performance. I actually find her somewhat attractive, don’t ask.

1. Temper Trap
They are beyond dope. I’ve been a fan since late 2009 and I can honestly say their album is one of the best I’ve heard this year, it’s up with there with the likes of Thank Me Later. We managed to get close to the front for their performance but you know Wireless are real strict so I couldn’t take my DSLR with me. Sad times, felt like I was missing a limb. I think they pretty much sang every song off their epic debut album but my favourite part was when they just went crazy and starting jamming out. One thing that I really liked about the festival was that the crowd were really civilized and not too crazy – no mosh pits, thank fuck.
I promise I’ll write more later but right now I must get ready for Day 2 of Wireless.
