Umm. I don’t quite know where to begin, we were invited for an early screening of Step Up 3D by Atlantic Records. I loved loved the previous 2 films in the series as I’m a big fan of dance films. One thing people need to realise about dance films is that you’re going to watch the film for the dancing not for the Oscar award winning storyline. It was very much the same story for this movie.
The acting and cheesy lines were somewhat comical at times. The crowd were laughing more at them rather than at their jokes. Too many quotable cheesy lines in this film, I won’t reveal anything for those that still want to go watch it in the cinema. On the other hand, the dancing was on point.
The addition of the ‘3D‘ factor meant the dancers had opportunities to dance whilst staring straight into the camera. My favourite bit was when one of the chicks from the ‘pirates’ dance crew was tutting at crazy speeds and perfect angles. The last sentence could potentially sound wrong if you replace tutting with another word. The 3D wasn’t mind blowing like it was in Avatar but it wasn’t bad either, a nice addition. It added some life to the film as the storyline was as flat as Keira Knightley’s chest.
The soundtrack was perfect, a good mix of upbeat bassy hiphop and r&b tracks. At times during the films I wanted to get up and start dancing away. Unfortunately the main song off features the incredibly annoying Flo-Rida, my tweets are actually deeper than his ‘rap’. The thing is it’s a David Guetta beat so your instantly going to start dancing if it comes in a club, so infectious.
