I know Trey‘s the ladies favourite singer but he’s been my favourite r&b singer for about 5 years now. I’m not going to lie, I downloaded ‘Just Gonna Make It‘ using torrents back then and had the whole ‘why buy when you can get it for free‘ mentality. My appreciation for music has increased greatly since then. So last night, I headed down to Trey’s first solo London gig and I can honestly confirm he’s killing the R&B game at the moment. More after the cut.

Honestly I could have gone home before the show as the queues were badly organised and standing in the rain for an hour was not a GOOD LOOK. In the space of walking from North Greenwich station to the O2 Arena, I had seen about 5-6 weaves gone wrong and you can instantly tell that those chicks are going to be rowdy in the queue. Never heard so much ‘kissing of teeth’ since I got beats for coming home late back in the day in Primary School. Anyway after we got in it was quite evident that every single female wanted to be as close to Trey as possible, the centre circle was packed and people were getting squished. At one point the security threatened to shutdown the concert if people didn’t move a step back and that seemed to do the trick.
I must thank Tremaine for bringing out a mighty fine selection of woman but at the same time, I have never seen woman acting in such a manner but more on that later. The show kicked off around 8pm with Mclean, apparently he’s a UK-based R&B singer. I don’t pay much attention to the charts over here so I don’t really know but I’ll give him props as he put on a decent show. He sang a few of his ‘hits’ as well as a 2 Usher classics which really got the crowd going but to be honest, everyone was just waiting for Trey to come on. After each Mclean song there was a *sigh* as people expected him to go off and then when he did, he was waved off. Poor guy with the name that reminds me of a cleaning detergent.
The anticipation of Prince of VA coming on had gotten the females crazy and somewhat rowdy, the bitch next to me (yes, the bitch) was actually stepping on my J’s and wouldn’t stop bumping into me. I was standing a fair bit behind the centre circle as well but just goes to show you how crazy it was. The second he came out singing ‘Songz is my name….’ I’m sure I saw a few bras flying onto the stage. He opened his set with his biggest song and probably my favourite song by him ‘Can’t Help But Wait‘, brings back so many memories for me. His vocals sounded exactly like how they sound on the studio version which is quite freaky but just goes to show this guy is really that talented. The next song he sang ‘Just Gotta Make It’ off his debut record that only the true fans would know the lyrics to. He’s definitely made it.
^^See all the hot chicks and see all ghetto heffa broads? some of them looked like they were walking Primark adverts. That section is the so called designated VIP area for those that paid £38 and as you can tell it’s full of females with hopes of meeting the singer himself. Little do they know that the artists have a real nice lounge around the back, me and Yang have signed our name on the wall alongside the celebs. You know how we do. Anyway back to the show; I must say the live band that accompanied Trey were killing it, especially the guitarist. He had a minute solo before the start of the first of Songz’s new album songs, Black Roses. It’s a sad song about a bad break-up and about missing your ex. I started crying at this point. I JOKE. Not much to say about the next few songs, same sort of ish…far from boring but I just can’t be arsed to elaborate on it. The crazy thing about his effect on females was demonstrated in one of the videos I recorded (coming to YouTube soon!) – chicks started screaming all of a sudden but I couldn’t figure out why but in the video I realised, Trey had taken off his sunglasses. That little action created all that commotion!?
One thing I love about taking my DSLR to an event of this kind is the female attention, they love photos of themselves and they stop me and asking me to take photos of them, my camera acts as my chat-up line. easy. Trey took a short 10 minute breather and he cameback looking like an extra from Baywatch, topless. At this point I started to lose interest as I didn’t really want to see a semi-naked man air grinding and touching himself on stage but I guess if Rihanna and Beyoncé take advantage of their sex appeal, why can’t he do the same? It most definitely worked as I definitely saw a few puddles on the dance floor and a few chicks actually fainted. He started off the 2nd half of his set with a classic of Trey Day, ‘Missin‘ You‘. He then moved onto some of the more upbeat records from his latest album such as ‘Say Ahh’, ‘LOL :-)’, ‘I Need A Girl’ and ‘I Invented Sex‘. He decided to call 3 ‘treyettes’ onto the stage much to the anger of the rest of the females but for these chicks, it was like Christmas day. They were jumping all over Trey, poking him and doing all sorts but they were quickly removed from the stage as it was a 14+ event and I’m sure someone informed him that they might actually be under-age.
He then called up on a woman who looked about 30-something and proceeded to pour water into her mouth. ‘Say Ahh’. All in all, it was a dope concert. I think he showed us to why he is being hailed as the current King of R&B; Usher has dropped off since his marriage/divorce ordeal, R. Kelly is too busy urinating & auto-tuning and lastly Chris Brown…SMH. The rest aren’t even relevant. 5/5.
