Ms Lauryn Hill. I think that last sentence is enough to get people, who love real music, excited. Its been too long since we have heard Ms Hill talk about her situation as it stands and even longer since we have heard any new material from her. But I think it is safe to say that we well and truly ready. In a very rare interview with NPR music, the rapper/singer opened up and gave us some long awaited (and very honest, if I might add) answers to questions that have been continually asked for years. Check what she had to say after the jump (includes audio).

Estelle’s first ever mixtape just dropped tonight, she calls it ‘I almost made a mixtape’. I have listened to it and I think its great, the mixtape reminds me why I like Estelle’s music, ever since she started leaning toward dance music I didn’t think she would come back down to earth and do something like this. Estelle has been talented from day 1  when she released 1980 and Free- both really good tunes; however  I was never really into her music. After hearing her album ‘Shine’ on repeat at work I realised how talented she is. That album has some really good tunes on there I pretty much like the whole album. I was eager to find out what her next project would be like and I have to say I was a little bit disappointing. Though I like ‘One Love’ and ‘Freak’ they are both good tunes but I was just expecting her to do something a lot closer to her original sound which I think suits her a lot better.

Every Tom, Dick and Harry seem to be collaborating with G-Shock these days but not many of them are actually that inventive and different to the bog-standard models. These guys however have successfully managed to infuse their own style into their watch, more on the watch itself here. Film director and video artist Kenzo Digital pays homage to the 8-bit video game culture with this short film starring the Staten Island design duo Dee & Ricky as an extension of G-Shock’s recent watch campaign with them. Video after the cut.

I’m really late with this but that’s mainly due to the lack of good songs in the past week. I’ve only got around 15 songs for ya’ll. Starting off with a dope song off Curren$y‘s upcoming album featuring Mos Def and Jay Electronica. You can’t go wrong when you have the likes of those 2 on the track, songs after the cut.

Snapped this from the car as I was going out of London for the weekend. I hate car journeys; having to sit in one seat of hours with only a limited amount of things to do. I ended up designing a typography for a summer project that I’ll be unveiling over the next month or so. One thing I’ve realised is; you have to keep your friends close but your enemies closer.

I’m not a big fan of UK streetwear brands; mainly due to their lack of originality. 80% of the brands I saw at Reset III had designs Supreme and Bape were doing 5-6 years ago, in fact some of the graphic prints I could have done myself in Microsoft Paint. Introducing London-based brand, Second-Son who have have been bringing a unique, creative, original graphics with an English twist to the streetwear game since 2005. More after the cut.
